UI DESIGN + FRONT-ENDMOBILE APP2019

HIUP App

A mobile companion to a recruitment platform: job search, a CV builder, and a connected news feed — taken from low-fidelity sketches to a production build.

ROLE
UI Designer · Front-end Developer
SCOPE
Sketches, wireframes, UI, prototype, build
STACK
Figma, React
CONTEXT
Companion to the Academy HQ platform
01THE BRIEF

Three jobs, one thumb.

The desktop platform already did job search, CV creation and news. On mobile, all three had to coexist without a navigation model that buried any of them — and a CV builder is a long form, which is the hardest thing to make tolerable on a phone.

A CV builder is a long form. On mobile, the whole design problem is making a long form feel short.
02APPROACH

Sketches before screens, then a prototype people could hold.

I worked from low-fidelity sketches into wireframes and a clickable prototype before any visual design, splitting the CV builder into short, resumable steps with progress always visible.

Then I built the front-end, which meant the interaction details I had specified — keyboard behaviour, field focus, save states — actually survived into the shipped app.

METHOD 01
Task decomposition
Broke CV creation into the smallest publishable units, so a user can stop after one step and still have something saved.
METHOD 02
Paper sketches first
Low-fidelity sketches before any tool, because the question was sequence and grouping — not visual design.
METHOD 03
Clickable prototype
Tested the step flow in a prototype people could hold, which is where the resumable-progress requirement came from.

Outcome

Shipped as the mobile companion to the recruitment platform, with job search, a step-based CV builder and a connected news feed.

My role

UI design and front-end build, from low-fidelity sketches through prototype to production.

Reflection

Designing and building the same long form taught me how much of mobile form UX lives in details you cannot draw — keyboard type, focus order, what happens when the app is backgrounded mid-step.
